Markus Gangl has accepted a call for a professorship at the University of Mannheim. Since October 1, 2004 he has been working there as a Professor for Methods of Empirical Social Research and Applied Sociology at the Faculty of Sociology.
The following pages present his research at the WZB from July 2001 to September 2004.

  Curriculum vitae


is Senior Research Fellow at the Research Unit Labour Market Policy and Employment since July 2001. He studied Sociology, Economics, and Political Science at the Universities of Stuttgart and Mannheim, and has completed his PhD at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Mannheim, Germany. His research interests are in the analysis of labour market careers, unemployment, income dynamics and poverty, but also include the statistical methods for the analysis of longitudinal data and the methodology of causal inference. At the WZB, he is conducting research on human capital effects of welfare state policies, and on the relation between welfare states and labour markets more generally.

Markus Gangl is member of the American Sociological Association, the American Economic Association, the German Sociological Association (DGS), the International Sociological Association (Research Committees 28 Social Stratification and Mobility and 33 Logic and Methodology), and the European Association of Labour Economists.
