The Market Processes and Governance Unit was established at the WZB in 2001. Its purpose is to undertake research into the governance
problems of the public sector. Using a public finance perspective, the
section analyses the way existing and alternative
governance processes
in market and state function with regard to their efficiency and
distribution effects. The social security system, public education and
taxation, including the aspect of the political strategies used by
government actors, constitute the core of the
research program. Particular
attention is given here to the challenges that internationalisation
poses for the public sector. The section’s research
evaluates reform proposals and provides the economic policy
makers with tangible recommendations.
