Sebastian Kessing was at the Free University Berlin from 2000-2005, and at the University of Warwick from 2005-2006. He has been an associated research fellow at the WZB since 2001 and, in April 2006, joined MPG as a senior research fellow. From November 2007 until March 2009 he was working for the European Commissioner. In April 2009 he joined the Economics Department at the University of Siegen to assume a position as professor of economics (with tenure).
